ALT EFF’s 2022 festival edition debuted with an in-person screening at Tokoro Farms, a beautiful lush green estate. With a presence of over 200 people engaged in watching films that represented 6 countries including the Oscar nominated Indian film, All That Breathes gripping the audience to its narrative of inter-species co-existence. The festival event concluded with local food & live music performances by local and international artists.

At a full house event hosted by the Bangalore Creative Circus, an urban living lab in collaboration with ALT EFF screened a curated list of global short and long films that saw a diverse audience. We were met with participants from different age groups attentively immersing themselves in the visual narratives on screen and curiously participating in film-maker Q&A’s & an interactive workshop on Biomimicry hosted by Mr. Prashant Dhawan.

In collaboration with The Vibe & Soho House, ALT EFF curated the screening of a thought provoking film ‘The Seeds of Vandana Shiva,’ followed by a panel discussion on ‘Seed Sovereignty, Regeneration & Food Diversity’ moderated by Chaitsi Ahuja of Brown Living with panellists Satyajit Hange of Two Brothers Organic Farms, Ganga Kakadia of Art Village Karjat, Shailesh Awate of OOO Farms & Premila Martis Parera of Dream Grove Bandra. It was concluded by sharing ideas, interactions and discussions on ways to incorporate sustainable practices on an individual level. 

Sathyamangalam, TN

ALT EFF films were able to reach 200 young tribal students of Sathyamangalam in the Nilgiris through our collaboration with Keystone Foundation. The children’s exuberant whistles while watching the animated short film, ‘Spirit Of The Forest’ filled the screening room and our hearts! Reaching students is a core mission of ALT EFF’s and this event was a big success.

Environmental Films and permaculture farms are an obvious match! The event at Saraya Farm was an unforgettable weekend night of revelery, music and dancing to accompany multiple film screenings. The tribal inspired multicultural musical evening was wrapped with a live performance by the spirited band, Malafasu.

In collaboration with Earth Day and Alliance Française Du Bengale, the screening of ‘Mamody, the last Baobab digger,’ a film on human adaptability the environmental landscape interwoven with age old cultural knowledge and practises of water harvesting and conservation. The film was followed by a lively audience discussion.

A community screening hosted by the Aldona Institute that engaged local participants such as students, young conservationists & researchers, beekeepers and retired professionals some of who took to stage post the screening of ‘Colonies in Conflict,’ a film on the migratory bee species, Apis Dorsata and its intersection with the urban landscape, sharing their own experiences and stories.

ALT EFF’s collaboration with Alliance Française de Bombay enabled the screening of ‘Aya,’ winner of ALT EFF’s Best International film that depicts socio-cultural effects of sea level rise and climate migration. 

Ooty, TN

The collaboration with Keystone Foundation extended to Ooty for locals and students of tribal and private schools. Two days of the festival was scheduled at the iconic Assembly Rooms, the oldest theatre in Ooty functional from the pre-independence era with a curation of diverse short and long films followed by a Q & A with film maker Rajani Mani, director of ‘Colonies in Conflict’ and Vivek Sangwan, director of ‘Thengapalli’. 

Saligao, GA

The Saligao Institute in Goa is a true third place and cornerstone of the locality. The film screenings were followed by a discussion by and amongst the locals on water conservation, taking the themes of the films and applying them to their unique situation.

Gurgaon, HR

ALT EFF supporters and collaborators, Rare India and The Quorum Club enabled ALT EFF’s screening in Gurgaon. The festival concluded with a full house showcasing the Academy Award nominated ‘All That Breathes’ and a short film ‘By The Power Plant’ followed by a Q&A with the film-maker Pelle Wichmann; and protagonists, Nadeem Shehzad, Salik Rehman of ‘All That Breathes’ along with producer, Aman Mann.
