Synopsis

Co-directed with an Ecuadorian Amazon tribe, the film revolves around the culture, practices and teachings of the many generations living alongside the Pastaza and Kapawari rivers. Luciano travels through the territory collecting the stories of the community, and their stand on the urbanisation that desires to colonise in their region.

From the filmmaker

River of Spirits is born from our conviction that cinema is a space for co-creation, reflection, and resistance. We co-directed this film through the shared perspectives of Tawna and an Achuar filmmaker, weaving in the worldview of a culture where the personal and the communal are inseparable. It evokes a poetic imaginary in which reality and spirituality intertwine, allowing us to perceive how these communities organize their time, their stories, and their struggles.
