Today, a global steel company using conservation promises to brand a new mining venture as green. OVERBURDEN celebrates the power of mutual aid, showing how people and ecosystems persist, rebuild, and thrive against overwhelming odds.

The film is made from long-term presence, deep listening, and a desire to illuminate how people and ecosystems endure in places reshaped by global extraction. It explores a new wave of mining that casts a shadow on the Nimba highland region, as a global steel company exploits financialised conservation systems to greenwash its activities as “care.” Yet this is not a film about devastation alone. It centres the residents of Nimba County who focus on what is tangible and meaningful
