Synopsis

The Koli’s enduring connection to the primordial rhythms of the sea are disturbed by the ruthless transformation of the city. An ethnographic meditation on the native fisherfolk and their resilience in the face of a city that never stops changing.

From the filmmaker

After spending time in one of the last fishing villages in Mumbai, I was moved to tell a story that captures the community’s deep, ancestral connection to the land and the sea; a relationship that permeates the Koli’s religion, culture, daily lives and dreams, and one that is threatened by the ruthless transformation of the city.

Despite growing up in Mumbai, the research process for this film allowed me to see the city through a new lens.
