Synopsis

Neighbors Derek Banbury and Derek Gow are chalk and cheese. Banbury believes intensive monoculture farming is the only path to ‘feed the world’, while Gow pioneers rewilding. The (laugh) riot between Dereks juxtaposes ideologies, practices and the very tangible effects on their neighboring plots of land.

From the filmmaker

I made Derek vs Derek because I wanted to find a way of telling the frightening story of biodiversity loss. This led me to Derek Gow. Once I met his neighbour, the intensive farming Derek, I realised that filming their often funny tussles was a great way of telling the story of the struggle between those who believe farming is the only thing we should be doing with the land and those who want to prioritise the restoration of nature.
