From turquoise waters, to fresh coconut & fish curry onboard, to naps on the sunny bow, we are invited to join Abdul Nassar and his crew on their fishing boat for the day. Traditional wisdom, ocean stewardship and modern innovations are all the hallmarks of their pole-and-line tuna fishing practice.

My connection to Lakshadweep began not with the islands, but with the people who work there. Friends at the Nature Conservation Foundation had spoken about Lakshadweep for long before I ever set foot on it. Years earlier, while getting certified as an advanced open water scuba diver during my photography training, I never imagined that skill would one day allow me to capture the ways of life of the Lakshadweep islands. In a way, it felt like destiny.
